National Pet Adoption Event Challenges Prescott to “Clear the Shelter” on August 19

NBC/Telemundo media teams up with Yavapai Humane Society to match homeless pets with forever families

PRESCOTT, Ariz., (August 8, 2017) – Yavapai Humane Society (YHS), is hosting a “pick your price” pet adoption event on Saturday, August 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Clear the Shelters day. Clear the Shelters is a national event hosted by NBC/Telemundo in an effort to relieve shelters of overcrowding, save more pets lives, and match deserving animals with loving families.

This national pet adoption drive has teamed up with thirteen local animal shelters in Arizona, including YHS located in Prescott (1625 Sundog Ranch Road). On this national day of action the animal shelter will offer adoptions for “pick your price” donations instead of standard fees.

The Clear the Shelters effort, is sponsored by VIP Petcare and Petco, and will take place in 19 markets across the United States and Puerto Rico. Locally, viewers will be able to watch special programming celebrating successful adoptions in the state and across the country on KTAZ-TV Channel 39 Phoenix.

Clear the Shelters was initiated in 2014 in the Dallas-Fort Worth market as a partnership between local television stations and dozens of North Texas animal shelters. The day resulted in the adoption of more than 2,200 homeless animals, the most adopted in one day in North Texas. Last year over 50,000 pets found their forever homes during the adoption day. Local animal shelters hope to repeat that astounding success in Arizona, especially right here in the Quad Cities area.

There are many different ages, breeds, sizes, and personalities available for adoption at Yavapai Humane Society. Yavapai Humane Society always encourages friends of the animals to “Opt to Adopt” when looking for their next furry family member. Only an estimated 30 percent of owned animals are adopted from shelters or rescues. Yavapai Humane Society asks for help making this statistic much higher and wants to find them ALL homes this Saturday, August 19 on Clear the Shelters day!
